Miscellaneous Schemes under Ministry of Civil Aviation
1. Digi Yatra Project
Background and Purpose
In today’s world, digital technology is increasingly used to make public services smoother and faster. The aviation sector is no exception. Earlier, passengers at airports had to show their identity proofs and boarding passes at multiple checkpoints—entry gate, security, boarding, etc. This caused delays and inconvenience.
👉 To solve this, the Government launched the Digi Yatra project in December 2022.
Key Features
- Paperless Travel: Instead of repeatedly showing documents, the system uses facial recognition technology (FRT). Your face becomes your boarding pass.
- Unique Digi Yatra ID: Every passenger can generate a Digi Yatra ID, which is linked to their travel documents.
- Voluntary in Nature: Passengers are free to choose whether they want to use Digi Yatra or continue with the traditional process.
- Institutional Mechanism: A Digi Yatra Foundation (DYF) has been set up as a joint venture company.
- DYF manages the Digi Yatra Central Ecosystem (DYCE) which ensures standardization, interoperability, and security of the system.
Benefits
- Saves time and reduces queues.
- Minimizes human contact → especially useful in post-COVID era.
- Improves security by reducing identity fraud.
